Jim Corbett National Park:

You all must have explored the malls in big cities, discos, Pizza corners, historical places monuments but when we want to explore nature at its best in raw and beautiful form with its all flora and fauna then you must have to visit Jim Corbett park. Like all other people, I also want to relax soothe my soul and peace. I want to tell you about my trip to Jim Corbett.It is the oldest and forested wildlife sanctuary. It is known for its Bengal Tigers. The main key to attraction is for wildlife enthusiasts and I am one of those who loves nature trees rivers silence animals birds.

Jim Corbett National Park is an oldest national park and famous tourist destination of India. It is located in Ramnagar, Uttrakhand in Northern India.
Ramnagar is the gateway to Corbett National Park named after renowned hunter turned conversationalist Jim Corbett who played a key role in its establishment.It was established in 1936 as a Hailey national park. He contributed big efforts in the setting up of this park. After making entries at respective gates visitors can move in vehicles with permit inside the park.You have to hire gypsies at Ramnagar and can issues permits at CTR reception office at Ramnagar or you can book tickets online from their website.Ramnagar is well connected via road to Nainital, Lucknow, Ranikhet Haridwar, Dehradun, and Delhi.

One of the finest wilderness areas of the world is Jim Corbett and  is rightly known as the “Land of Roar, Trumpet, and Song,”

Floral diversity of Corbett is mind-boggling. According to the botanical survey of India Corbett has 600 species of plants trees, shrubs, ferns, grass, climbers, herbs and bamboos.As Corbett is richest home to animals Corbett is richest in flora too. More than  70% of the area of Corbett is dominated by Sal forests. Most visible trees are Sal, Khair and Sissoo,Banboo and Chir pine. The forest of Corbett is dominated by many flowering plants like Kachnar, Dhak or flame of forest, Madaar, or Indian coral, Amaltas. The floor of Corbett is covered by several species of shrubs Ber, Maror phali, and jhau. These shrubs provide food and habitat to them.

Fauna of Corbett National Park:

Corbett is first tiger reserve in India. Corbett is one of the preserved parks with 164 number of elephants and over 600 elephants. This park is an ideal home for majestic animals like Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic elephants, and many other wild animals.

Mammals: Tiger leopard, elephant, chital, sambar, hog deer, barking deer, wild boar, langur, Wild pig, rhesus monkey, sambar, and jackal.

Birds: Peacock, Jungle Fowl, Partridge, Kaleej Pheasant, crow, vulture, parakeet, Laughing Thrush, oriole, kingfisher, drongo, dove, woodpecker, duck, teal, stork, cormorant, and seagull

Reptiles: Indian marsh crocodile, gharial, King cobra, common krait, cobra, Russel’s viper, python and monitor lizard;

Fish: Mahaseer, kalimuchi, kalabasu, chilwa and goonch

Jeep Safari:

There are different zones in the Corbett National Park. Jeep is the best option to explore the forest. Visitors can book jeep safari online for five different zones of Corbett namely Bijrani, Jhirna, Dhikala, Dhela, Corbett Landscape (Sitabani) and Durgadevi. All the procedures of jeep safari are managed by forest authorities.

Timings:  Morning 6:00 AM – 9:30 AM,     Evening 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM

Canter safari:

Canter safari is a popular way to explore Corbett national park. Canter safari can be done only in Dhikala zone. It is the only way to explore Dhikala zone if you are not staying in the forest rest house. Canter safaris operated by park authorities and booked in advance at Ramnagar office. Canter safari duration is 15th November to 15th June. Seats are limited so book canter safari in advance and this operates for the specific period twice a day. The forest officials as per guidelines of Indian Forest Department manages all the procedures of Canter safari. One canter has the capacity of 16 seats. Duration of the trip is 5 hours.

Foreigner: 3000/person

Timings : Morning 6:00 AM – 11:30 AM | Evening 12:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Elephant Safari:

Elephant safari is available only in the Bijrani, Sitabani and Dhikala Eco-tourism zone. I enjoyed the elephant safari which is the special treat in the Corbett.Can you imagine the joy of elephant ride in the mysterious thick majestic forest, along the Kosi river in the quaint valley of Corbett? One of apex form of wildlife tourism is riding on the back of the elephant which was steered by trained Mahout. This is the great idea to explore the wilderness of the park strolling over the majestic open grounds of the jungle at the height of nine to ten feet high. Elephant followed designated path in the safari and I got an opportunity to spot Kosi river mammals, birds and several species of reptiles. Elephant safari is the only way to see wild animals closely and spend more time with them. a tour to Corbett without Elephant safari means your tour is not complete.

How to reach Corbett National Park:

The park is located near Ramnagar. Roadways are the best option due to pleasant weather. Delhi to Corbett road distance is 260 km and 6 hours drive.

By road: Distance from Delhi to Corbett is 260 km. route way Delhi-Gajrola-Moradabad- Kashipur-Ramnagar-Corbett Park

By Rail: A number of train runs from Delhi to Ramnagar.

Airport: The nearest airport is Pantnagar.

1.Kosi river:

Kosi river is the perennial river that flows along the long stretches of Corbett park.The river forms the eastern boundary of the park from Mohana to Dhikuli till Ramnagar. Kosi river is occupied by a kind of fish called Masheer which attracts several migratory birds.

2.Garjiya Devi Temple:

Garjiya Devi temple located at distance of 14 km from Ramnagar on NH 121 in Nainital district Uttrakhand. Garjiya Devi is presiding deity here. The temple is situated on a huge rock amidst Kosi river. Temple is accessed by devotees after climbing approx 90 stairs. Garjiya Devi is an incarnation of Goddess Parvati Daughter of the king of Himalayas. The temple visit is open for tourists all around the year except for the monsoons as the water level in Kosi river rises.

3.Corbett Waterfall:

Corbett waterfall is located at 25 km from Ramnagar. The Waterfall is accessed by road which is lined with tall trees and a hint of wildlife species.Corbett waterfalls dropdown from a height of 60 feet. This waterfall area is perfect to enjoy a picnic.This place offers a refreshing break from tiring safari session. One can enjoy birdwatching here also. One should carry food stock and drinks as there are no shops nearby.

4.Corbett Museum:

Corbett Museum is a heritage bungalow of Jim Corbett, a famous hunter, and renowned environmentalists. The museum is located near Kaladungi area and maintained in the memory of conversationist. Here is a display of some belongings of Jim Corbett like paintings, articles, sketches, manuscripts, last hunted. One can shop handicrafts and books about the national park from a shop nearby. Photography is allowed and minimal fees are paid for the visit.

5.Kalagarh Dam:

Kalagarh Dam is an embankment dam built on Ramganga river tributary of Ganga. This dam is also known as Ramganga Dam. This dam is located in the periphery of Corbett park. It is built by UP Irrigation Department.This dam provides electricity to Corbett Park. This dam is located at a distance of 5 km from Kalagarh village.

 6.Hanuman dham:

Hanuman Dham is dedicated to Anjani Putra God Hanuman. Hanuman Dham is surrounded by majestic Himalayas valley and major tourist attraction in the Jim Corbett Park.It is one of the famous pilgrimage and newly constructed tourist attractions and located 7 km away from Ramnagar from Anjani Gram Village. currently, construction work is going on

7.Sitabani Temple:

Tucked inside the dense jungle of Corbett Park, Sitabani temple is dedicated to Devi Sita consort of Lord Rama. According to legend Devi Sita lived here with Rishi Valmiki during exile. This ancient temple is located in Sitabani jungle zone, can be visited during safari a halt point. At this place, Devi Sita is in middle of darbar and is flanked by Ram and Laxman on both sides. This ancient temple set amidst jungle surrounded by hills and near a water body.

8.Ahana Naturopathy Center:

Corbett cricket ground is a fully equipped and well appointed 55 yards standard cricket ground in Corbett. It is located at 7 km from Dhagarhi gate near Ramnagar.

10. Sunrise Point:

Sunrise Point is the highest point in the park located near to Bhuwankhal village. The village is also known as Kath Ki Nao which attracts thousands of visitors to view the natures fascinating sights and sunrise point is one of them.From this highest elevation point magnificent view of Kosi and Ramganga river can be observed in between the dense forest. This place is also famous for the oldest bungalow built by Britishers amidst the dense forest. One can enjoy the subtle natural beauty of Corbett Park here.
